As a retired law enforcement officer, there is no harder task than making a notification of death (“Deputy shot, killed by road rage suspect near Ellensburg,” The Herald, March 20). Whether it be to a young widow with children, a wife, husband, or child, it hurts to have to do this chore. When a sheriff or police chief has to notify the family and public of a death of an officer, there is no greater anguish.
And the governor stands up and offers his condolences while maintain that no criminal will be put to death while he is governor! I wonder if he would be willing to trade places with Deputy Ryan Thompson?
