Chrystal Doucette, the Cascade High School student who was barred from graduation ceremonies because she was late for her class project, learned an important life lesson – don’t be late.
This is a lesson some people in their thirties and forties have yet to learn, so she can count herself lucky.
As someone who works in the public relations and marketing field, I deal with deadlines every day. That’s how things are in the real world. And if Ms. Doucette aspires to work in journalism, as the story suggests, then she had better learn that punctuality is the only important thing.
So let’s not feel sorry for her that she doesn’t get to graduate with her friends. Let’s be grateful that her story is an example to the rest of our kids. So for all you seniors next year, take my advice. Try showing up 20 minutes early – you’ll never be punished for that.
