I was saddened to read about the meth problems Granite Falls is facing as outlined in a recent Rolling Stone magazine article. I was raised in Granite Falls, along with my six siblings, and graduated from its high school. While I no longer live there, it will always be home to me. The fact that I live elsewhere does not mean that I’m safe from the monster known as meth. Granite Falls could be Anytown, USA, as far as meth is concerned.
I work for a local law enforcement agency and know first-hand what meth has done to boost criminal activity. Addicts are constantly looking for a money source to support their habits, whether through identity theft, burglary or robbing an unsuspecting citizen. The other half of the problem lies with the individual using the drug. Their lives quickly spiral out of control and it takes a long climb upward to get out of the hole they’ve dug for themselves.
I see adults making the decision to use meth and I’m disgusted. I see minors making the same choice and I’m determined to get involved and assist those organizations that are trying to make a difference in the fight against the manufacturing of meth in our community. I would urge you to do the same.
