We would like to thank the men and women firefighters of Fire District 1, Local 1828 (by Mariner High School) for their contribution of warm jackets to all our morning kindergarten students at Discovery Elementary School. Many students walk by the fire station on their way to school, and I suspect the firefighters were aware that even in the most frigid temperatures, some of our youngest students came to school wearing inadequate jackets. When we go out to recess, the teachers temporarily solve the problem by borrowing coats from the lost and found area to help keep our students warm. However, the firefighters found a way to keep our students warm not only during school hours, but at home as well. Every day as our students enter the classrooms in their warm colorful jackets, we say a silent thank you to our local firefighters.
