I attended the Kamiak vs. Mariner Unified Basketball game on Jan. 26 and was glad to see The Herald featured a picture in Friday’s edition. This was one of the most rewarding athletic events I have ever attended, as the large crowd — from both schools — cheered every basket that was made, whether it was your team or the opposition scoring.
The joy and determination on the participants’ faces throughout the game was heartwarming — a welcome relief from the uncertain world outside that gym. While I was glad to see the picture, I noticed there was no accompanying article explaining (to uninformed readers) what this game was about — had I not attended I never would have known myself. So thanks for the photo, but how about some words on the “bigger picture” — a hugely successful and special event for special ed students from both schools. As a fan I thank those kids for a night of basketball I won’t forget.
