We must respond to the Dec. 1 letter to the editor regarding Everett High School (“Everett campus can create difficulties”). We are thankful daily that our daughter (and her sister before her) attends Everett High. The diversity of the school population is representative of our world today and the education she receives would be hard to beat.
Neither of our daughters has yet to come home to inform us that “gang-bangers or drug pushers” have approached them. The streets between the buildings haven’t been an issue for them as much as they have been for us when we make the mistake of driving down them during passing time.
Inflammatory remarks only perpetuate misconceptions and should be saved for the tabloids. The Everett High neighborhood is also home to our church, the YMCA, several great coffee shops, restaurants and gift stores and many hard-working families. Not every school is the right fit for every child and we are fortunate to live in a community that affords us many wonderful education choices, both public and private. The safety, education and peace of mind of our children is important to us and we are glad that we have chosen Everett High School.
