Once again I know why I subscribe to The Daily Herald. Sunday’s well-written “Our Volcano” article by Lukas Velush and Bill Sheets, examining Glacier Peak’s threat to Snohomish County residents, was an awakening.
Until reading your cover story, I gazed at Mount Baker and Mount Rainier and believed no volcano threat was in between, much less closer to home. Having stood near my prior home in Beaverton, Ore., and watched the ash cloud from Mount St. Helens 30 years ago, I also can confirm just two months later small pine trees were growing in my ash-filled gutters 57 miles west of ground zero.
Now a home owner 10 miles closer (47 miles west of Glacier Peak from downtown Snohomish), I can’t help but wonder if others here will experience what mother nature brings. Great story, good writers, and a fine paper.
