Citizens of the Arlington Library Capital Facility Area have an opportunity to make an excellent investment in our community this Nov. 7. On the ballot you will be asked to approve a bond issue to construct, furnish and equip a new Arlington library.
The expanding population of the Arlington Library Capital Facility Area has vastly outgrown the current library. A new library of 20,000 square feet will replace the current facility, giving almost four times more space for an expanded book collection, more computers, greater seating capacity and a larger parking lot. As an added benefit, the current library will be kept by the city of Arlington as a community building for much-needed meeting space.
Voters have a right to expect good use of their money by public agencies and I believe the new Arlington library will be a stellar example of great value. The cost for construction and furnishing will be approximately 18 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value, or $54 per year on a $300,000 house. Imagine that, a homeowner with a $300,000 home can buy a new library for 15 cents a day! I can’t think of anything else where a minimal investment reaps such a great reward.
The Arlington City Council and Sno-Isle Libraries Board of Trustees felt this is so important for our community both voted unanimously to place this bond issue on the November ballot. The Arlington City Council felt this is so important for our community we voted unanimously to donate the land for the new library. I feel this is so important for our community, our children and our future that I am sincerely asking you to join me in voting yes for the new Arlington library on Nov. 7.
