Regarding the June 23 letter, “U.S. needs to take control of Iraq’s oil”:
I think the writer has an excellent idea. We just take over “Iraq’s oil because we need to control it. To pay off our investment in this war and for our loss of our brave fighting men and women and to save our democratic way of life.” While we are at it, when our sugar reserves dwindle why don’t we just take over Brazil’s sugar fields? When our beef reserves dwindle why don’t we just take over Argentina’s beef supply? When our steel reserves dwindle why don’t we just take over Japan and Korea’s supplies?
For all practical purposes we should never run out of anything ever again. If we need it we can just take it from another country. Heck, they don’t need it and we do need it and we need it to save our democratic way of life at any and all expense. The writer’s view is that if America fails, we need to “save our great country from financial collapse. If this country collapses, so does the world.” That view is pretty presumptuous and arrogant to think that the entire world revolves around America.
Heck, if weren’t for his current administration’s arrogance we wouldn’t have all of these debts to pay. We would still have the lives of the 4,000-plus brave soldiers and our debt wouldn’t be in the billions of dollars.
