I read the May 9 edition of The Herald and was delighted to see the story about Lynnwood High School student leaders titled “Segregated Georgia prom irks Lynnwood students.” The fact that these students felt strongly enough to make such a powerful statement and that they have encouraged other high schools to follow suit shows the true spirit and conscience of the students at Lynnwood High School.
For several years the school has been plagued with many rumors – gangs, drugs and general malaise – all of which are untrue. The students of Lynnwood High School are supportive of one another and because of the diverse ethnicity of the school they have a better understanding of many cultures and how basic freedom and love of family are the same no matter what your ethnic background.
For those who have students in the LHS service area and have been searching for ways to avoid the school, take the time to visit the campus. You will find students who care for one another and their school. You will also find a staff community that is dedicated, caring and happy to be teaching in such a great school.
My compliments to the students of Lynnwood High School for the courage to stand up for what they believe.
