What a sad statement I see in the news that a lawsuit was filed against the Marysville School District (Thursday, “Victims’ families file suit.”) The shooting at Marysville Pilchuck High School was a tremendous tragedy, not only for the families involved, but the community as a whole. Now it will be compounded by greedy lawyers keeping the heartbreak alive while they pursue to extract a huge sum from the taxpayers of Marysville. Unless they have information, unknown to the extensive investigation, to show that someone at the school had timely knowledge of what was going to happen, they will not prove their case.
As I recall, this same law firm is planning/suing Snohomish County and MPHS for another very sad incident where one boy was killed and another injured a few years back. Again it was tragic but it is very obvious to anyone who knows where the accident occurred that the boys accomplished what they were trying to do. Get their car airborne for a thrill. At any speed near the speed limit the car would not have left the road.
My prediction in both cases is that after prolonging heartache for a lot of people they will reach a settlement which will be maybe 10 percent of the lawsuit amounts but will still put millions in their pockets with a little for the grieving families. In the meantime the wound will still fester in the community.
These type of lawyers used to be called ambulance chasers. These folks have just upped the ante.
