Articles proclaiming as ridiculous the length of time it is taking to determine our new governor are an understatement.
Christine Gregoire has said she is for the people, yet she continues to drag her feet in accepting that the people have chosen Dino Rossi. If she is for the people then she should gracefully concede and not demand a recount.
This election has been the proving ground of the people and their choices. It doesn’t need to be about Democrats vs. Republicans. It is about the freedom to choose the candidate you feel is best qualified to fulfill the office. The Democrats have demonstrated their ability to be poor sports through this entire election process with all of the mud slinging done during the campaign and the demand for recounts. The Republicans have shown grace as they did not carry things to the same level.
The candidates thought this election was about money, power and who could dig up the most garbage on the other. But clearly it has been a test of character of the candidates and it appears that, at least for this election, the Republican candidates have shown more character in their actions and words.
Whether a person is a Republican or a Democrat means nothing, because underneath it all they are people just like you and me. The only difference is that their lives will be under scrutiny, their character will be tested and questioned on a daily basis and they will be publicly viewed, slammed and judged by an entire city, state or nation. These men and women chosen to serve in office have a truly heavy load to carry. Will they make mistakes? Of course they will. We are all humans.
Christine Gregoire should bow out gracefully and to move on with her life. She should show some character and grace.
