Having met its goal of maintaining an encampment through the end of 2011, on Dec. 31 Occupy Everett removed its tents, cleaned its campsite at the Snohomish County government campus, and prepared to move into the next phase of political activism on behalf of the disenfranchised majority of Americans.
Snohomish County officials are to be commended for responding to the Occupy Movement in the reasonable and supportive manner that American citizens have the right to expect from their government at all levels when peacefully assembling for political purposes. Sadly, many local governments demonstrated how little provocation it took to trigger brutal and completely unwarranted police actions. Shame on them.
Occupy Everett will maintain a covered meeting area at the courthouse plaza for the express purpose of providing a location and inspiration for all county residents to meet and discuss political issues. To the extent possible, members of Occupy Everett will be present to discuss specific political issues and activities. We hope to post regular hours soon. We will also have movies.
Our aim is to inform and learn from our fellow citizens and to give voice to the great number of citizens who realize their republic has been lost to the influence of big money and no longer works for the common good. Please stop by, no matter your political persuasions. The most important “Occupation” is for each of us to occupy ourselves with the effort to take back our government.
We are the 99 percent who are not being represented. Occupy.
