After the 2001 election, a group of Marysville residents were so disgusted with the deceit and unrepentant arrogance of the Marysville leadership that they sought to change the Marysville form of government from a mayor/council to a council/manager. They gave themselves a most appropriate name – Reform Now. They circulated petitions and secured voter signatures to place the proposal on the ballot.
The corruption of the recent election was so reminiscent of “Big City” political shenanigans that it deserves to be briefly revisited.
A group, Concerned Citizens of Marysville, was formed for the express purpose of advancing their slate of candidates for the 2001 election. They were well funded (developer money).
Meanwhile, one of their candidates, Tom Grady, was having disturbing events in his life. There was talk of falsified records and missing money.
“Concerned Citizens” and Marysville leaders continued to endorse Mr. Grady. After the election, the Snohomish County prosecutor permitted Grady to avoid prosecution and repay the missing money.
Reform Now comes, now, when the citizens of Marysville need help in changing course. You can expect to hear the spinmeisters from the Marysville leadership. They will argue that you won’t be able to vote for mayor – that doesn’t turn my head, we are trying to remove a mayor and get some professional management of our city. By law, there must be an election, so the cost is irrelevant. It will cost to have an election, but it certainly is in the best interest of Marysville residents to right a wrong.
So if you are motivated toward cleaning house and changing the direction of Marysville politics – think Reform Now.
