What’s in it for us? A recent letter to the editor says that population growth has led to more homeless and the increase in home prices. Possibly, but that isn’t the only thing that population growth brings us. The theory is that more people equates to more tax money to pay for necessities, roads, bridges, better schools and more services such as police, firemen, health care workers, etc, right?
Can anyone think of one road here in the Puget Sound area that is not over capacity? If it’s not in gridlock it’s so full of potholes you can’t drive on it! Is there one school that exists with adequate funds to allow educators to do the best job they can or a social worker or health care provider that says they have enough funds to do an adequate job? Is there any government official that says we have enough funds to accomplish what needs to be done. Tried to buy a house lately or even rent one?
Time for answers.
More and more folks are asking, “what’s in it for us?” Other than putting more money into cash registers, which makes business owners happy, and yes, I realize that more money for a business usually means more jobs, but what is that accomplishing other than to perpetuate this endless cycle of problems? One more question. Name one city in the USA that has achieved a better standard of living for all, through growth?
