Gun comment disturbing

This is in regards to the mock election held at Jefferson Elementary, profiled in the Nov. 3 Herald article titled, “My fellow students … Jefferson students cast votes in simulated election.” Although I’m sure it was a great learning experience for all the students involved, I was saddened by one particular comment made by a young voter. He was voting for George W. Bush because he was afraid of everyone losing their guns. I’ve heard this comment more than once during this election season and it really scares me that the only reason some people could give for voting for Bush is they think Al Gore would take their guns. Even more disturbing is that a young child said this.
