In the Sept. 14 primary election for Snohomish County Superior Court judge, Position 13, Michael W. Hall is the only candidate with prior judicial experience.
His opponent’s recent mailing to the voters is a classic example of taking political license with the facts. Michael Downes has been a judge in Snohomish County for a total of six weeks since his political appointment by the governor in July. Yet, in at least two places on his flier he gives the voters the clear impression that he has been and is an established, experienced judge. In reality, he has been a prosecutor for more than 20 years, with no previous judicial experience.
He also quotes the governor as saying: “A top-notch superior court judge …” This statement is taken out of context when our Democratic governor initially appointed him to the position – as you cannot be “top notch” on the day of your appointment, nor in just six weeks!
Your readers need to be informed that Michael W. Hall is the only candidate in the race for Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Position 13 who has actual prior judicial experience, as a judge pro tem in Edmonds Municipal Court since 2000 and a judge pro tem in Thurston County Superior Court since 1998. Unlike his opponent, Michael W. Hall has also had his own successful general-practice law firm for 16 years in Snohomish County, having received the Washington State Bar Association’s “Pro Bono Service Award” in 2003 for his legal assistance to low-income and non-profit association clients.
Please set the record straight.
