Thank you, Julie Muhlstein, for finally speaking up about the deliberate shooting/killing of Niles Meservey. (March 4 column, “Doing the right thing takes courage, judgment.“)
I was a witness to the shooting on that night. My Land Rover was parked between Niles’ Corvette and the officer that killed him. There’s no way physically that Niles could have hit the officer with his car. I’m sad for the Meservey family, and extremely proud of your column.
The jury ruled the shooting wasn’t in self defense and that the state was not responsible to pay for the officer’s legal defense.
I now live in fear, for this could happen to anyone in Everett, get killed unjustifiably and the officer gets off like it was nothing.
Thank you for speaking in Niles’ defense, you showed the courage to do the right (write) thing. I applaud you. Thanks, how else can we make change? The police are supposed to serve and protect us. God bless you and the Meservey family; he didn’t deserve to die by assassination.
Though I can’t sleep at night, I’m respectfully grateful to you, Julie. Good job.
