While I applaud the heroic efforts of all those concerned with the Manhattan Project and the near prison-like conditions they were forced to endure for security reasons, I take exception to the B-Reactor at Hanford becoming a museum. Objections range from glorifying nuclear weaponry to the cost of such a project and the lack of easy access to the site. It would seem that recognizing the efforts of all those involved would be more important than having a museum for plutonium, the most lethal of the elements.
U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings of Yakima must be drinking some of that ground water from around those leaking tanks at Hanford. He’s going to try for a $40 million package of tax dollars for this glowing white elephant? I don’t think so, Doc. Time for a reality check
