Thank goodness there are state legislators out there who are willing to go the extra mile to help their constituents. One of them happens to be Joe Marine. We contacted several state legislators with a property damage problem involving a state agency, and Joe was the only one who would become directly involved. The others showed little interest and referred us on.
For years, prop wash from the Mukilteo ferries eroded away the beach, rock barrier and seawall at Losvar Condominium. It got so bad that a huge sinkhole was created in the outer parking lot, threatening the foundation of the building. In 1996 and again in 2000 Washington State Ferries had a plan to fix the problems, but Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife denied issuing a permit. This year, thanks to Joe Marine, litigation and arbitration was avoided and a permit was issued. He met with department heads, discussed the problems and persuaded those agencies to do their job.
With transportation being such an important issue, it will take a strong leader to address all the transportation problems in our district. Joe has spent this last year doing just that. Soon, the Port of Everett will acquire the military Tank Farm at Mukilteo. Assistance by a state legislator to deal with state problems probably will be required. Joe has proven to be an effective mediator between public agencies to solve problems and keep the process moving. With his past accomplishments as a legislator, there is no question Joe Marine is the best person to represent the people of District 21.
