I am writing in regard to your Good Life section. More often than not, your food articles present items that are far from the Feb. 2 headline, “2 desserts that show your love for family.” Judyrae Kruse, The Forum writer, as usual offers recipes better described as ways to kill your family. She presents goodies such as candy bar pie, guaranteed to be “comfort” food.
The Wednesday article, “Sweet treat for couples” by Associated Press writer Alison Ladman, features a dessert with 975 calories per serving, 407 from fat, 255 mg. of cholesterol and 135 g. of carbohydrates. This “sweet treat” contains more than half of the average person’s calorie needs for a whole day. Fortunately, the author says that it involves many little steps to make, which should burn a few of those calories.
Other articles include, “How to get delicious, nonstarchy potatoes,” “How to make your own ranch dressing” (with plenty of mayonnaise), and “Decadent cake is easy to make.” With obesity a major problem in the United States, I would suggest that a healthy approach to food be presented if your readers want to live long enough to enjoy the Good Life. Cherry chocolate crisp with vanilla ice cream will not count as one of the fruit needs for the day.
Obesity comes from eating too much high-calorie food combined with inactivity.
