Sen. Slade Gorton is a man of deeds, not words. He personally helped me ten years ago while I was stationed in Schwienfurt, Germany with the U.S. Army.
To make a long story short, I and many others in my army unit were subject to harassment and abuse at the hands of my commander and first sergeant and several NCOs under them.
After utilizing the chain of command to no avail, I finally wrote a letter to Sen. Slade Gorton to see if he could help resolve this intolerable situation. Sen. Gorton immediately started a congressional investigation of my unit, which resulted in the first sergeant being relieved of duty and the verbal admonishment and transfer of my commander. I have never met Sen. Gorton, but I am a lifelong fan of his. He does what is right, and he has my vote for life.
