Recent letters have prompted me to write regarding the Everett School District’s upcoming bond. I grew up in North Everett on 14th and Broadway. During my school days, I attended Washington Grade School, North Junior High and Everett High. While growing up, I remember my parents being very supportive of the Everett School District. Our lives centered on school and its playing fields.
Consequently, this was the attitude my husband and I adopted raising our four sons in South Everett. We wanted our children to have the same advantages we did growing up. My husband and I always felt the best investment we ever made with our money was our children’s education through the Everett School District. We felt our kids deserved the same benefits as neighboring school districts.
Now, we all share differences of opinion. That’s human nature. Not everyone is going to be happy with everything. However, the question we should ask ourselves is: “What’s in the best interests of kids?” This should be something that unites all of us. Our legacy. To my way of thinking … everything else is secondary to the well-being of our children.
The Everett School District has an excellent track record when it comes to providing for our kids. I have always trusted in our leadership. It is just one of the reasons we’ve been proud to live in this community. Whether it’s been Washington Grade School or Jefferson Elementary, North Junior or Eisenhower Middle, Everett High or Cascade High, we have always supported our schools. A good education starts with the resources our children utilize to gain knowledge. That’s why this bond focusing on maintenances, upgrades and new construction is so important.
Things may be a little different than when I was a little girl growing up in the “City of Smokestacks,” but one thing hasn’t changed – the importance of a good education. My wish is that all children experience the excellent educational opportunities as our four sons. I’m proud of this community and its support of our children through public schools. As always, I plan to vote “yes” for the Everett School District’s bond.
