As a quadriplegic for almost 20 years, I can speak to how difficult it is to find quality assistance, particularly for those of us who want to live independently in our own homes.
What we really need is higher quality and more reliable home care services. Right now, training is inadequate. Turnover among workers is exceedingly high, and the standards are too low. We need a worker registry and a referral service to make it easier to find qualified home care workers so we can stay in our own homes.
That’s why many people with disabilities, along with seniors, church groups, health care advocates, nurses, and home care workers, are supporting I-775, the Home Care Quality Initiative. This measure would help raise standards, improve training, and make it easier to find qualified home care providers. Please vote yes on I-775!
