I could not believe the one-sided presentation of the issues in the Jan. 26 front-page article “House is on the clock.”
If The Herald’s intent was to encourage sympathy for the family who invested $50,000 in the remodeling and did all of the work themselves – laboring nights and weekends for six months and sleeping in their living room as they tore the second story apart to rebuild it – you didn’t succeed with me. That family knew they were leasing the land from the tribe and making improvements was a risky business. They could have put all of that money and effort into property that they owned, but they chose to lease property on or near the water for a substantial reduction in what it would cost them to buy.
My objection is not to the people who made their thoughtful decision to make improvements to leased property but to The Herald for writing this tear-jerking, biased article.
