Herald columnist Catherine Bongiorno of Lift to Lose Fitness has been our personal trainer since last fall.
We started by attending several group exercise sessions and then signed up for personal training sessions. She was able to explain the proper usage of the machines and was sensitive to our physical limitations. I had back surgery so there were several proposed twisting exercises that needed to be modified. My wife has Alzheimer’s, so Catherine had to provide her exercises within her limitations. I also have osteoporosis, so now know how important weight-bearing exercises are.
Both of us have lost weight, feel better physically and emotionally and have learned much about building muscle in order ramp up metabolism and burn fat.
I look forward to her columns in The Herald. Her June 4 column on working harder was very informative and a new concept for me. The body needs to be revved up in order to gain muscle and burn fat.
I would hope that other readers would act on her fitness and nutrition ideas. My workouts are often times the most rewarding part of my day. I start my workout with high stress and leave with renewed hope for the future.
