I kept waiting to see if someone else in your reading community would react to the splashy spreads you devoted to the new Tulalip Casino in your paper last week. Undoubtedly, some of the other businesses in the area must have looked with envy at the near week of free advertising you devoted to this new “recreational opportunity.”
My favorite was Thursday’s article, in which you walked people through the process on how to gamble. How about a follow-up article on the increased phone calls that gambling hotlines can expect because of your coverage? I don’t deny the newsworthiness of one article on this new gambling center, but six mostly front page stories with lots of color pictures? Running so many articles on an institution that causes so much suffering among the families of our community is a betrayal of your public trust. To add insult to injury, describing the casino as part of a possible family outing proves you lacked good sense.
