Standardized testing should not be allowed in schools because it evaluates on just one day, it is extremely stressful, and it is unfair for many students.
According to “Pros and Cons of Standardized Testing,” standardized testing evaluates only one day, no matter if you are sick or if you do way better in class; how you do on the test is your grade. There are an infinite amount of students that do really well when they learn the subject, but when the test, they just do not meet the real level they are actually at.
Also, standardized tests are extremely stressful for students. According to a study by a Harvard student, her tests show test-related stress is literally making many children sick. It is not fair to have anyone that stressed and worried over a test.
In addition, tests are discriminatory to non-English speakers, as well as people with disabilities. “There has been a misconception that students and kids with learning disabilities, such as dyslexia perform poorly in standardized tests.” “Pros and Cons” states. It is not fair to have someone who has a disadvantage take a test.
The opposing side may say that teaching to the test is good learning, however, this is simply incorrect. Teaching to the test forces teachers to ignore other important topics that are not on the test. We should take a stand on standardized tests in the future.
