The Herald endorsements in the Aug. 24 paper portray county executive candidates Aaron Reardon and Dave Earling as saviors of Snohomish County’s sinking economy and dilapidated infrastructure. These two demonstrate how elected and appointed officials, with an agenda that is contrary to the wants and needs of the taxpayers of this county, can destroy what was once a peaceful and prosperous county.
Earling, a zealot of mass transportation spending that is allowed by the Growth Management Act, has drained transportation dollars. Billions have been wasted with only promises to show. Now he has promised to make government live within its means. Why didn’t he do that with our transit dollars?
Reardon, whose legislative antics have allowed growth management to devastate our county with no attempt to stop its massive costs and oppressive regulations, says he will prioritize spending and audit the results. Currently the county spends all of our money on itself, leaving little money left to prioritize. Reardon’s promises lack the one ingredient this county so desperately needs – reorganization.
Thus, The Herald endorses a spendthrift and the legislator who made his antics possible. Whether The Herald is aware, people of this county know what is going on and who is responsible.
