The otherwise excellent article in Sunday’s Moneywise section, “Here’s why a Roth IRA makes sense”, left out a major advantage of the Roth IRA. Roth IRA owners do not have to start taking out required minimum amounts at age 70?½ like traditional IRA owners do. If the owner doesn’t need to get at funds, keeping dollars cozy and untaxed inside the Roth is a major tax benefit.
