I have to respond to the letter that compares filling out a voter’s ballot to taking a fourth grade WASL test (“Follow simple rules or forget about it,” Dec. 6).
If voting was really like taking a fourth grade WASL test, then we would all have to write out the name of the candidate we were voting for and a few sentences explaining why. Then our ballot would be sent to NCS Pearson (the company that hand-scores the WASL). If your reasons you give explaining your vote don’t impress the temporary, under-trained workers at NCS Pearson, or if there are any spelling or grammatical errors, your ballot would not receive a full count. The cost of voting would be $70 per person (about the cost of one WASL test).
And even with all the scoring errors attributed to NCS Pearson in the past, no one would be able to request a recount.
