In his letter of Sept. 5, Mark Terry took offense at the words “re-elect” and the “39th” on Hans Dunshee’s old signs recycled in his bid to represent the 44th Legislative District. (“Hans Dunshee: Citizens should be wise to his tactics”). Rep. Dunshee does want to be re-elected to the Legislature, but the lines for Dunshee’s district were changed and now a large portion of the former 39th is in the 44th.
Using old signs is very typical of the sensible and minimalist Dunshee. Hans is often seen at gatherings in his plain clothes, topped with a worn sweater. (Legislators are paid less than teachers!) He lives in the same modest home, bikes around the district, and is in all ways one of us.
Criticizing Rep. Dunshee for using his old signs seems off the mark at a time of economic challenges. However, Terry’s call for citizens to be “wise” is correct. I believe it would be wise to re-elect Hans Dunshee to the Legislature.
