I wholeheartedly endorse Rep. Joe Marine for state representative from the 21st District. Rep. Marine has proven to be an intelligent, focused, hard-working representative of the people of this district. As a freshman, he effected the transfer of a poorly maintained state park to the city of Mukilteo, a park the city had been trying to acquire for years without success. Rep. Marine fought to streamline the transportation permitting process and to reduce the cumbersome, bureaucratic procedures we now use to deal with transportation issues. He stood up to his own party leaders, an act of moral courage seldom seen in any organization, in an effort to enact transportation legislation.
Here in Edmonds, when it became clear that the King County leadership was legally empowered to use the Edmonds waterfront as the site of their new wastewater plant despite the city’s objections, Joe Marine took action. He wrote Ron Sims supporting Edmonds. When that letter was ignored, he personally read it into the official record at the recent Brightwater information meeting, where he also listened to the concerns of Edmonds residents. He is now researching legislation, for the next legislative session, which would change the law which allows one political jurisdiction to condemn property in another. Throughout his first year as our representative, Joe Marine stood out as a leader who serves his district with everything he has.
Joe Marine’s endorsements are significant. Lynwood’s mayor and three city council members, Edmonds’ council president and four of the five remaining council members endorse Joe Marine. In Mukilteo, where the council knows both candidates well, having served with both in local government, the mayor, council president, and five of the remaining six council members endorse Joe Marine. One of these individuals has not publicly supported a Republican in over 30 years. This is the best indication one can get as to a legislator’s effectiveness. These are the people who know him and have to work with him on issues close to home. They believe Joe Marine has proven his ability to work with them to solve problems. I am going to join them and vote for Joe Marine.
