It was with great sadness that we have lost Peter Jennings. He was my all time favorite newsman for many years. Perhaps the reason I felt that way was because when he was broadcasting the news I could imagine that he was talking directly to me as an individual, chatting with me about what was going on in the country and the world.
In spite of his worldly sophistication, he always came across as a regular, very intelligent man with a great deal of class. Kind, caring, a great family man. I remember when he was on “Northwest Afternoon,” saying that his kids thought he was very uncool.
Two of his specials that I liked best were: the recent one about UFOs, and New Years Eve 1999, in which he was broadcasting celebratory events all over the world – I was working nights so I was able to stay up all night and watch this most special celebration, bringing on the new millennium.
He will be missed by millions of people worldwide; his memory will go into my book of highest respect right up there beside Bob Hope.
