Regarding the Monday letter, “Auction materials to the public”:
Pursuant to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers approved Mitigation Strategy (May 15, 2009), the Port of Everett is beginning to deconstruct the Collins Building. In accordance with the strategy, identified reusable materials are to be stored for six months by the port and distributed as follows:
“Priority will be given to public entities, and buildings listed or eligible to be listed as a federal, state or local historic property; and/or as directed by Historic Everett and Washington Trust for Historic Preservation… At the end of six months, the port will market the remaining materials at market value to a reputable reuse company.”
Available materials will include the windows, columns and beams. Other materials that can be safely removed will also be made available. A complete copy of the mitigation strategy can be found at the port’s website.
Any proceeds will be used to renovate the port’s historic Weyerhaeuser Building, located in the South Marina (1700 W. Marine View Drive).
The port is currently evaluating whether citizens can be the direct recipient of the materials after the six-month time period has passed. We encourage interested citizens and eligible agencies to contact the port, and place your name and material request on the interested list.
All material requests should be directed to Brandon Whitaker, port staff, at 425-388-0613 or by e-mail at bwhitaker@portofeverett.com.
