On behalf of IAFF Union Local 1828 and the Edmonds Fire and Police Departments we would like to thank all of you for supporting our observance at the Fallen Firefighter Memorial on Sept. 11. Although a sober and sorrowful time, by recognizing those who made the ultimate sacrifice as hero or innocent victim we honor their memory and continue the healing process both as a nation and as individuals. We would like to thank our speakers for their stirring and comforting words: Chaplain Ken Gaydos, Mayor Gary Kaakenson and Sen. Paull Shinn. Thanks to our event coordinator and emcee Battalion Chief Bob Schmitt.
Thanks to the Edmonds Bakery and Edmonds Fire Safety Foundation for providing and serving refreshments. Thanks to the schools, churches and the Senior Center for hosting police and fire department members at events that ran throughout the day and evening. Thanks to all who brought cookies, cakes and other goodies to the stations. Most of all, thanks to this great community that supports both departments not just on sad days of remembrance, but every day of the year. It is our honor to serve you.
DAVID STERN, POLICE CHIEF
Edmonds
