In response to the front page article in Monday’s Herald, “Snohomish’s sewage woes”:
It is apparent that the Herald writer was “brainwashed” by City Manager Larry Bauman and Public Works Director Tim Heydon. She should have known that at the Dec. 2 City Council meeting, Mr. Bauman and Mr. Heydon were directed by the council to prepare a cost-benefit analysis on a much cheaper alternative than the $38 million sewer upgrade at the Snohomish lagoon site.
Namely, that option is to run a sewer line along and across the Snohomish River, and hook up to the city of Everett’s sewer system.
Not only would this option be less costly, but it would free up more than 30 acres of potential park land and possibly even a salmon hatchery at the former lagoon site.
In addition, Everett’s sewer rate structure is much fairer to residents, both single and multi-family, than Snohomish’s flawed rate structure.
Hooking up to Everett’s system is a slam-dunk decision and it baffles me why The Herald never reported that.
Could it be that Snohomish city managers will not give up any of their “turf” to Everett and Snohomish ratepayers be damned?
