Hospital has earned community support

We who are citizens of Arlington and surrounding communities have long believed in the importance and benefits of having a hospital close to where we live, work and play.

I grew up in Arlington hearing stories about the ladies of the community going door-to-door selling bonds to finance building a “new” hospital on Stillaguamish Avenue when the “old” hospital, which was a block from my home, was nearly 50 years old.

When I was 10, most of the adults in my life worked on a campaign to create a hospital district that would help support our local hospital. Small, privately owned local hospitals were struggling to survive and the people of Arlington didn’t want to lose their hospital.

Through surgeries for tonsillitis and appendicitis, broken bones and other injuries, Cascade Valley Hospital, and the physicians of our community, have long been the healthcare cornerstone for myself and my family. I consider making sure Cascade Valley Hospital continues to be able to provide the best of care for my family, friends and neighbors to be an obligation, a privilege and a responsibility. An obligation to those who worked so hard to build and support our hospital over the past century; a privilege to know when ever I or my family needs it, great care is just minutes away; and a responsibility to future generations to help make sure they have the same great health care right here in Arlington.

Please consider your own obligation, privilege and responsibility and say yes to Proposition 1 on the May 15 ballot to help finance the expansion of our only local emergency department and hospital.
