I am a non-college educated millennial who is lucky enough to have found a middle class life style. My demographic has experienced historic losses in social mobility. The Washington state House Democrats budget proposal will help fix the upside down tax system in the state and fund our schools.
The Senate Republican proposal is wrong on this issue:
The Republicans want to raise property taxes, which are already too high.
The Republicans use smoke-and-mirror tactics to move money around government, which doesn’t actually solve any budget problems.
The Republicans propose funneling money away from the State Patrol and corrections officers. Why compromise public safety to pay for schools?
The House Democrats have our future in mind:
The tiny percentage of people who would actually pay a capital gains tax benefit from public education – most employees in this state are a product of the state public schools.
Washington’s programs, roads and services make the wealthy’s success possible. All Washingtonians should see this!
We already over-tax property, working and middle class households and small businesses. The poorest in our state pay up to 7 times more of their income than the wealthiest do. The wealthiest individuals and corporations are not paying what they owe due to special tax breaks.
The Republicans support a status quo system and corporate welfare, paid for by increasing taxes on those already paying too much. I support the Democrats’ budget proposal. It is fair, balanced, and has the future of Washington state in mind.
