How did Putin influence the U.S. election?

Apparently the Russians, backed by Putin, hacked “something” prior to the presidential election that influenced millions of voters to vote for Trump.

I have yet to find anything promulgated by the news media offering a plausible explanation as to how. The news media along with Clinton and the Obama administration have labeled Putin as an evil thug and dictator. Even during Obama’s last news conference he described Putin as an adversary of the United States.

To postulate that millions of voters love Putin so much that they would vote for Trump over Clinton seems ludicrous to me. So what explicitly did the Russians do to accomplish this? Am I the only one confused by this latest disingenuous blast by the news media?
