Regarding the July 17 article, “Roundabouts proposed for 172nd Street in Arlington”:
I have lived in Arlington for 51 years. In the early ’70s we were told that 172nd Street would be five lanes with a turning lane in the middle — from Highway 9 to I-5.
Then someone decided to put 500 stop signs and 50 roundabouts in downtown Arlington. The roundabouts work very well when people are going 5 mph and I am sure Les Schwab is doing a ton of brake work.
How does a roundabout work on a road (Highway 9) when drivers are going 55 mph?
I can imagine the state building a new fire and aid station on Highway 9 and 172nd.
