“Bush said that pulling the American presence from Baghdad before Iraqis are capable of defending themselves would have disastrous results … ” – Associated Press, May 1, 2007.
Am I missing something here? We’ve now been occupying Iraq for over four years (longer than World War II lasted). I would certainly hope that we’ve been training the Iraqis for “self-defense” from the beginning.
My daughter was considered to be adequately trained within a year and a half of joining the U.S. Army. In October of 2005, she was promptly deployed to “aid” in their defense.
If she can be trained in that short of a time, why is it that the Iraqi soldiers are in need of more than four years of training? Are they slow learners? Or is it just that our administration has a slightly racist and/or cultural bias against these people, believing perhaps that they’re incapable of learning how to put on a uniform, march in formation and shoot a rifle?
