This letter is yet another one regarding the proposed NASCAR track in north Marysville. My family lives less than one half-mile from 152nd Street and, yes, I am very concerned about all the issues already brought forward (noise, traffic, quality of life). But what about use of the already present soccer fields during any events that could be scheduled at the NASCAR facility? Traffic is bad there during the comings and goings of kids and parents now.
Track supporters talk about jobs being created by a NASCAR facility. But how many jobs will be lost if a track is built? The egg ranch and turf farm both employ a lot of people. Keep in mind that these are year-round jobs and not seasonal employment like the track would provide. We also have Shoultes Elementary School nearby with family activities taking place on weekends. Will traffic pose such a problem that baseball, softball and basketball games will stop? And one more thing. Isn’t it odd that the Marysville mayor is pushing for a track, yet those who live near the proposed site are out of city limits and therefore don’t vote on his position?
