Over the weekend, Barack Obama violated the taboo against discussing social class in American politics. The press went nuts. George Bush violated every human rights law on the books by admitting that he sanctioned torture. The press shrugged and yawned. Democrat John Conyers “invited” Bush’s subordinates, the actual torture planners, to testify to Congress. Good luck with that, John.
This episode perfectly illustrates the problem with America’s leadership. Americans don’t like this corruption of our ideals. They don’t like the collusion of the politicians and the media companies. By huge, historic majorities, in the range of 70 to 80-plus percent, Americans are saying the country is on the wrong track and they are dissatisfied.
A change is coming. Those who presume to lead should examine their hearts and renew their commitment to the ideals of our republic. The country Bush, the media and the Congress have been trying to create is not America. But America is coming back, as anyone who attended a caucus knows. Leaders who don’t want to be swept aside should start standing up for America, now.
