To those of you who would vote for Initiative 1639, here are a few reasons why it would be dangerous to do so:
I-1639 is a defacto firearm registration scheme, which has been held unconstitutional by several Supreme Court decisions. The requirement that every gun owner prove he/she has taken a “firearms proficiency” class within the past year is identical to a requirement that every firearms owner register his/her gun. I-1639 creates a database of firearms owners that has been used throughout history as the first step to confiscation of firearms by an out-of-control government.
It would put every household in Washington state at risk of “smash and grab” style home invasions, leaving the householder vulnerable to criminal home invasion, loss of property, injury or death or all three. Such crimes are not at all unusual, and if this initiative is passed into law it would provide the incentive for vastly increased incidents of this type.
And if you don’t own a firearm and don’t think there is anything wrong with a database of firearms owners (available to all), think about the utility of such a database to criminals! They’ll know who doesn’t have a gun, and therefore whose home they can hit with impunity!
Dear friends, don’t be taken in by a billionaire’s fantasy, they have resources that you’ll never have, armed guards, totally secure residences, armored cars etc. Ask yourself why they are so anxious to restrict your access to guns. This is all about control, folks.
