The March 21 article titled: “Demonstrations, airport security increase in state” made me wonder: Why do people use their energy in protesting the war instead of doing things to support the troops who are putting their lives on the line in Iraq? Despite the protesters’ attempts to avoid conflict, it was initiated anyway, and will continue to its eventual conclusion even if the protesters try to change the circumstances.
Die-ins, protests, marches, chaining oneself to a bridge or light post? These things are what they do to protest, but what do they do except annoy and slow commuters’ progress? The commuters didn’t start the war, and making them late for work does not end the war in the Middle East. All it does is cause more conflict.
Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but people need to realize that they cannot end the war even if they shut down all of I-5. We need to work together in time of war, not create problems here on the home front.
