At this point in time I am insured, but because I am about to turn 55, my rates are jumping by $205 per month unless I triple my deductible to $1,500 a year. Plus, my plan hardly covers everything, and as of now, I have been fighting for over a year to get Aetna to pay up on an accident I had.
Literally, I have spent no less than 18 hours on the phone, plus numerous faxes and letters. So basically I was paying $756 per month to fight with my insurance company in order to get them to pay on my claim. I have paid for years without actually using it, other than yearly check-ups, but whenever I have actually had a claim it has usually turned into a battle.
We need health-care reform because the insurance companies are now simply irresponsible — they take your money and then deny your claims for a year in hope you’ll just give up and pay it yourself but I can’t … my premiums keep me broke!
