My husband works at Boeing and has for 15 years. He enjoys his job and all the benefits it provides. Boeing has provided us with many years of good wages and excellent medical benefits. I personally don’t know of any company that provides virtually free medical benefits, two weeks paid vacation at Christmas, paid sick leave and many other paid holidays. Many families pay hundreds of dollars a month for minimal health care insurance, and extra for their children. Considering the economy today, the unemployment rate, and the lack of plane orders, I can’t believe the members would vote to strike.
The union reps act like Boeing is the enemy. I don’t know who signs your check, but the last time I looked, it was Boeing, and not the union. The union is supposed to work for us, not the other way around. I am sure the laid-off workers would love to have your job.
We are very happy to have a job at Boeing. I wouldn’t have a problem paying a little bit for insurance, considering the skyrocketing medical costs today. Doesn’t the union know that they have no bargaining power? Granted, this is not the best contract ever, but these are not the best times, either. Take up the good fight in three years. Consider this: it will cost tens of thousands of dollars in lost wages, plus all the money you would have to use out of savings. For what? The same contract you will be jumping at to sign in 6 months?
