I am older than most people on this planet. Though I am not ready to cash in my chips just yet, I am at an age where one would be advised to keep his affairs in order, just in case.
One of the unfortunate things about leaving this life is that one must miss out on many great events in the future. One of my disappointments has been that I would probably not be around to witness the major effects of global warming on the world.
But now we have the new United Nations scientists’ report on acceleration of global warming, and we are faced with our national indifference to it. I can visualize the sorry remnants of the human race, confined to the marshes above the Arctic Circle, gasping for breath in a carbon-rich atmosphere, and be comforted by the increasing likelihood that I may last long enough to see it after all.
