Recently, in The Herald’s “Nation Briefly” column, there was an item about the arrest of 50 illegal aliens – all contract workers at North Carolina’s Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. All were found to have fake immigration documentation and were hired by outside contracting firms. It appears that the quest for the almighty dollar (cheaper wages) precluded proper screening or who-cares screening by these firms. Then again, what about the up-front failure of military screening to deny the illegal access to the base rather than after they were on base?
One can’t help but wonder how many more of these illegals with false documents are on our military bases, ships, all forms of transportation, refineries, munitions plants, food processors and on and on.
Most likely the majority of these illegal aliens are conscientious wage earners. However, they are filling jobs that rightfully American citizens or legal immigrants should be filling. Most troubling is that it is conceivable that those wishing us harm can get such easy access to sensitive areas. A wake-up call is in order.
